Built for
championships.
Hanley Motorsports Incorporated (HMI) is a championship-caliber sports car racing organization preparing to enter a new era of competition through a multi-series IMSA racing program beginning in 2027.
Hanley Motorsports Incorporated was founded with a singular vision: to build a premier, championship-caliber sports car racing organization capable of competing at the highest levels of North American motorsports. Built around a passion for racing, long-term growth, and elite-level execution, HMI is preparing to enter a new era of competition through a multi-series IMSA racing program beginning in 2027.
With BMW and a rapidly growing infrastructure, HMI will compete across multiple levels of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, including GTD, GTD Pro, and GS competition. The organization's mission is not simply to participate at the top level, but to establish a lasting presence built on professionalism, preparation, technical excellence, and race-winning performance.
Leadership
At the center of the organization is Robert Hanley, whose ambition, leadership, and commitment to motorsports laid the foundation for HMI's growth. Hanley's vision for HMI is centered on building a sustainable, long-term organization where drivers, partners, manufacturers, and team personnel can grow together while pursuing championships across every level of GT competition.
Working directly alongside Hanley is David Askew, a respected team owner and key strategic partner in HMI's future development. Askew has spent years building successful racing programs and brings extensive operational experience, leadership, and championship-winning knowledge to the organization.
To lead the day-to-day racing operation, HMI has assembled some of the most accomplished names in North American endurance racing. Mitchell Simmons serves as Team Principal, bringing decades of technical and operational expertise developed through years of success at the highest levels of GT competition. Widely respected throughout the paddock for his engineering leadership and organizational management, Simmons has played an instrumental role in numerous championship-winning programs.
Joining Simmons is Bryan Sellers as Program Director. One of the most accomplished drivers in IMSA history, Sellers has earned victories in every major endurance event in North American sports car racing, including the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the Twelve Hours of Sebring, Petit Le Mans, and multiple victories at the Long Beach Grand Prix. A multi-time IMSA GTD Champion, Sellers transitioned into management to help build a modern racing organization focused on long-term competitive success and organizational growth.
Partnered with BMW M Motorsport
Founded in 1972 in Munich, Germany, BMW Motorsport GmbH built the foundation for one of the most decorated competition résumés in modern racing. From the BMW 3.0 CSL "Batmobiles" in the touring car wars of the 1970s, to the legendary BMW M1 Procar series, to the BMW V12 LMR's outright victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1999, BMW's racing identity has been shaped over five decades of competition at the very front of motorsport.
The BMW M division, born from the same Munich factory, is where that racing DNA reaches the road. On track, BMW M Motorsport competes globally today with the BMW M4 GT3 EVO in GT3 competition, the BMW M4 GT4 for the GT4 and Michelin Pilot Challenge ladder, and the BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh prototype contesting the top class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the FIA World Endurance Championship.
For Hanley Motorsports, BMW is more than a manufacturer partnership. It's an alignment of philosophy. Engineering discipline, long-term thinking, and a relentless commitment to racing as a craft.
The Long View
Together, under the leadership of Robert Hanley and David Askew, HMI is building the foundation for what is poised to become one of the premier organizations in North American sports car racing. Combining Hanley's long-term vision and ambition with Askew's proven experience in developing championship-winning racing programs, HMI is focused on creating a motorsports company centered around professionalism, technical excellence, preparation, and sustained success.
Supported by elite personnel, manufacturer relationships, and years of top-level racing experience, HMI's mission extends far beyond race wins alone. The organization is committed to building a lasting platform where drivers, partners, manufacturers, and team members can grow together while competing at the highest levels of IMSA competition. With a relentless commitment to execution and innovation, HMI is positioning itself not only as a future championship contender, but as a respected and enduring presence within professional motorsports for years to come.
