What it's like to be a fan at an IMSA race

If you've only watched IMSA on television, you've only experienced half of it. The sound, the access, the smell of fuel, the way a GT3 car loads into a corner three feet from your fence. That part doesn't broadcast.

There is nothing in American motorsport quite like an IMSA WeatherTech weekend. Multi-class racing on legendary American circuits, with paddock access that's still genuinely open to fans who want it.

The paddock is open

Show up early. Bring a hat. Walk past the team trailers, watch a wheel change drill, see a chassis with the bodywork off. Most teams will sign a hat. Most drivers will say hello. This is not a sport that hides from the people who pay to attend.

Multi-class chaos, every lap

In a single corner you might see a Hypercar overtake a GTD car overtake a GT3 amateur on a lapped car. Every braking zone is a story. Every full-course caution rearranges the strategic picture for fifteen different teams at once. There is always something to watch.

The sound

GT3 cars at full chat through the Carousel at Daytona. The downshift bark coming into Turn 1 at Sebring. The first time a prototype goes by you on the back straight at Road America and the air pressure changes. You don't get this from a couch.

Bring earplugs. Then take them out for the start.

The grandstand vs. the fence

For a 24- or 12-hour event, move around. Stand at a hairpin. Walk the infield. Find a fast esses section at sunset. Each part of the track is a completely different race. The fans who get the most out of these weekends are the ones who explore.

Bring people who don't know racing

The conversion rate at an IMSA weekend is absurdly high. A first-timer at Petit Le Mans is a fan for life. The cars are spectacular, the access is unmatched, and the atmosphere is welcoming in a way most motorsport isn't.

If our 2027 calendar passes through your city (Daytona, Sebring, Long Beach, Laguna Seca, Detroit, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, Mosport, Road America, VIR, Indianapolis, Lime Rock, Road Atlanta) get a ticket. It's worth it.
